In 1983, the town of Fidalgo experienced a tragedy when 14 people’s lives were lost in a fishing accident. After the events of 1983, the four sisters behind Bunnies by the Bay were taught stories about “Cricket Island” as well as how to sew cloth characters by their grandmother, Elsa Atterberry. The four women behind Bunnies by the Bay dedicate their business as a tribute to the lives lost in this tragic event, including their father, uncle, cousin and childhood friends, as well as their grandmother.
Now, almost four decades later, they are still creating bunnies and keeping the spirit of "Cricket Island" alive. Their commitment to sharing stories, and fostering imagination reflects the resilience and strength of their community.
